What Happens at a VR Birthday Party? A Guide for Parents

See how a VR birthday party works at VR Escapism in Markham and Newmarket, from headset setup and multiplayer games to food, cake and celebration.

If you’ve never organized a VR birthday party, it can be difficult to picture what happens between arriving at the venue and cutting the cake.

At VR Escapism in Markham and Newmarket, birthday packages bring together multiplayer VR gameplay and party area use. Here’s what parents can expect, and what to confirm before the day.

Arriving and Getting Ready

You may arrive up to 15 minutes before your booked start time to prepare for the party.

Before guests arrive, make sure parents have the correct location and any waiver instructions provided by the team. Players should wear socks, as some game rooms require shoes to be removed.

Your booked VR session includes time for equipment setup and instructions. Guests don’t need to arrive an hour early to fit this in.

Headsets, Instructions and Setup

Before gameplay begins, the team helps players get their headsets ready and explains the controls and game instructions.

This preparation is part of the experience, especially when some guests are trying VR for the first time. Each one-hour VR session includes setup and approximately 45 minutes of actual gameplay.

When booking, mention any first-time players and share the children’s ages. The team can help you choose an appropriate experience and confirm any participation requirements.

Playing Together in VR

The party’s gameplay depends on the option you choose.

VR Arena: Multiplayer Mini Games

VR Arena brings players into multiplayer mini games, with different challenges offering opportunities for teamwork and friendly competition.

It can accommodate up to 12 players in one room. Ask about the available games at your chosen location when planning your party.

VR Escape Games: A Shared Adventure

In a VR escape game, players explore a virtual environment and work together to solve puzzles.

These games accommodate up to seven players per room. Two rooms can run at the same time, allowing larger birthday groups to participate in separate teams.

If your group has more than 12 players, ask about a customized package and how the games would be arranged.

Food, Cake and Birthday Time

The party continues beyond the headsets.

Both birthday packages include party area use, giving your group time for food, cake and celebrating together. Food, drinks and cake are not included, so you’re welcome to bring your own.

Confirm the party area available for your booking, including whether it is private or open. Arrangements differ by location and availability.

Need to store your cake? A fridge is available, but there is no freezer. Choose your cake accordingly and discuss storage needs with the team.

What Changes With a Two-Round Party?

The Classic package is a two-hour celebration with one VR session, followed by food and celebration time.

The three-hour Premium package includes two VR sessions, with a food break between rounds and time for cake and celebration afterward.

Both packages include up to 12 players:

  • Classic: $400 + tax

  • Premium: $750 + tax

Prices are the same at Markham and Newmarket, although game availability may differ. Confirm your schedule and game arrangements when booking.

What Should Parents Confirm Before Booking?

A few details will help you choose the right party:

  • Which games suit the players’ ages and interests?

  • How will the group be split between rooms?

  • What food, decorations and supplies should you bring?

  • What are the waiver and cancellation arrangements?

A $50 deposit is required to secure your booking. The team will provide booking details after you inquire.

View the birthday packages or send an inquiry with your preferred date, location, player count and ages.
